Cartridges, also known as valves, are used in taps and showers to control water flow. Thermostatic ones are used to control the temperature when showering. If you experience a sudden temperature change, like the water becomes too cold, you probably need to replace your thermostatic shower cartridge. Other signs of a poor working valve are inconsistent water flow and drips of water falling even after you have turned your shower off. Sometimes, a buildup of limescale can reduce the effectiveness of your valve. Try to remove it and soak it in a solution of white vinegar and lemon to see if it makes a difference before buying a new one.
